Who are the Royal Flying Doctor Service?

The RFDS is a national, charitable, health organisation delivering primary healthcare and 24-hour emergency services for those that live in rural and remote Australia.

Servicing the outback communities in Australia for over 95 years, the RFDS delivers healthcare where mainstream health services are not available, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology and a broad-reaching ground-service fleet.

Can you tell me more about the RFDS?

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) was established in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, with the intent of providing a “mantle of safety” for the people in the bush.

In the 95 years since its beginnings, the RFDS has evolved into a 24-hour, 7 days a week health service to enable people in rural and remote Australia, and who are beyond regular medical infrastructure, to access medical care in metropolitan-based tertiary hospitals.

Because of John Flynn’s vision and passion for innovation, we have seen the hospital emergency room, dentist’s chair and pharmacy become available to those living in the outback. And it’s because of the people of Australia that the service remains free and accessible to anyone who needs us.

We are also members of the Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA), Australia’s peak body for fundraisers and organisations representing professional Australian fundraising.

How will you use my donation?

Because you care, we can save lives in rural and remote areas.

You’re helping to transform our aircraft into intensive care units in the sky, fully equipped to transfer even the most critically ill patients to life-saving care.

By caring so much about people in the outback, you’re helping to deliver fly-in, fly-out primary health care clinics and mental health support in rural communities. You’re helping to purchase vital life-saving equipment like ventilators, defibrillators and infusion pumps which are used onboard every day.

Not only that, but you’ll be the reason we can transport people to urgent hospital care – babies fighting for their lives, young station hands dealing with horrific machinery accidents or grandparents suffering from acute heart failure.

What is a monthly donation?

A monthly donation is the most effective way to support the Flying Doctor. The benefit of giving monthly means that you will save time by donating regularly and your gift will help us plan, develop and deliver a range of outback and rural health programs.

Being able to count on your regular, ongoing support allows us to buy vital medical equipment, invest in infrastructure at our bases and purchase/ fit-out aircraft facilities to ensure we deliver life-saving care now and in the future.

Tell me about the RFDS Support Crew?

At the RFDS, we lovingly call our kind-hearted monthly donors our ‘Support Crew’, as they are supporting our crews of doctors, nurses and pilots on every flight. Helping to provide a life-saving service can only happen thanks to the generosity of helpful people like you. When you join the Support Crew with a monthly donation, we will send you:

Your nominated account or credit card will be debited each month on the 1st. At the end of the financial year, we will send a tax receipt with all your donations (donations over $2 are tax-deductible)

What methods of payments can I use?

You can make your donation using Visa and Mastercard. We also accept one-off donations by Paypal and if you’d prefer to set up a monthly donation via direct debit, please contact our Supporter Care team 07 3852 7515.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes, you will receive an email receipt immediately after donating and if you make a monthly gift you will receive a tax receipt in the post every year.

Can I get a receipt resent to me?

Yes you certainly can. Please email your details to [email protected], or call 07 3852 7515 and our Supporter Care team will organise this for you.

How do I reduce or increase my monthly donation?

This can be arranged with a quick call to our Supporter Care team on 07 3852 7515.

Can I put my donation on hold for a few months?

Yes of course, we can organise a payment holiday for up to three months. Please contact our Supporter Care team by email [email protected], or phone 07 3852 7515 and we can arrange this for you.
